Glassing Bottom
The time
has come to glass the bottom of the boat and get it painted. Here are some photos of the glassing
process. This has been the biggest job
to date but went pretty well considering I had not glassed such a large area
before.
I tried to
get everything organized before starting.
The epoxy is in the hot box on the bench.

Here is the
first bottom panel held in place with tape.

Ta da! It’s done.
Not many pictures of the in between stages as it was all go and no time
to stop for photos.

Here is a
shot from the back. Nice shiny hull
when the epoxy is first put on. There
are extra laminations at the transom and bottom/side junctions but I would not
do this next time. The transom edge has
a nice chamfer on it to allow the glass to stick around the corner and would
take about ten laminations of glass to build it up. I did put two extra laminations of glass in but still had to
build the edge up with epoxy anyway.
Next time I’ll just use epoxy.
After grinding down the epoxy on the transom edge I was able to get a
nice sharp edge.
