The Donor Ski

Once we had decided to build this particular boat we had to find a donor JetSki.  An ad in a newspaper brought a response and we purchased the ski.  It’s a 1991/92 Kawasaki JS 650SX JetSki.  The engine needed some minor carby work and a good clean up.  The hull was a mess and was only good for cutting up.

 

Here is the ski as it came home:

 

The engine came out pretty easily and after a clean up looked like this :

 

After considerable work with a 100mm angle grinder with a diamond blade this is what was left:

This is basically the section that we needed.  It has the intake tunnel and the mounting points for the pump in it.  I wanted to use as little of the JetSki as possible.  This is why we cut off the hull at the bulkhead.  Removing the foam was the worst part (took ages).
